The limited edition that Kara Walker has produced exclusively for the Kunstmuseum Basel reproduces an untitled drawing from a 38-part series acquired by the museum in 2019.

The series interweaves a range of themes in dense compositions:

America’s Founding Fathers, the exploitative use of African-American bodies by medical schools, police violence against Blacks and the Black Lives Matter movement. Exuding an “Old-Masterly” charm yet anchored in the present, the series is executed in variety of brown towns on high-end paper.

One copy of Kara Walker’s edition is on display at the museum shop in the Neubau. The copies destined for sale are expected at the Kunstmuseum Basel in July 2021.
